Depeche Mode – non-UK singles
These are the three commercial singles and two promo-only singles by Depeche Mode that were not released in the UK or Europe. Sire Records chose to release But Not Tonight as an A-side single, rather than Stripped, in North America. As band member Martin Gore sarcastically puts it in the Black Celebration documentary; ‘The Americans, in their wisdom, decided to release that instead.’ The American label also believed that Strangelove from 1987 could perform better on the charts, so they re-released it as Strangelove ’88. One Caress was somewhat carelessly released as a single in the US to further promote the album Songs of Faith and Devotion. Lastly, there are the US-only promo singles Perfect and Behind the Wheel 2011.
